Amos' Birth Story

Well sweet Amos you are a month old already, I guess now is a good time to finally post your birth story.

It was our usual errand running day so Micah and I had ventured out to go grocery shopping and make a few other stops as well. I had been having contractions on and off for a month, so another day of spontaneous contractions didn't seem out of the ordinary by any means. Once back home Micah wanted to blow up balloons for 'baby happy birthday' so we blew up balloons and hung them up. All day Micah had been singing happy birthday to my belly, it was like he knew that it was the day! After setting up the balloons Micah went down for an unusually long nap and only woke up at 5 pm. It gave me ample time to fluff the nest as I had been doing during most of his afternoon naps. After his nap we went to play outside and wait until daddy came home from work so we could eat supper together. Clint got home around 6:30 and I noticed that my sporadic contractions were starting to happen a bit more frequently but weren't terribly strong yet. I didn't want to get my hopes up since I was 13 days early. I messaged my doula to see what she thought about the contractions that I had been having. She told me to drink water and lay down and if they didn't stop that it was likely real labour. So I did just that and by 7 pm I realized that maybe this was the real deal. I started timing the contractions to see how far apart and how long they were, they were coming every 10 minutes and lasted a minute long. So I called my friend who was doing labour pictures for us and my mom and sister so they could watch Micah.

Mom was busy out in the field and said she would be another two hours as she needed to shower and get ready, she didn't seem in a hurry. So I text my sister, 15 minutes later she messaged me back and said, "ok I left work, do I have time to change?"  It made me laugh a bit at the very different responses I got. They ended up coming together, but not before mom called and asked questions like, "should I pack to stay over night?" "should we take separate cars?" It was now around 9 pm and things were clearly moving along and quickly! So my response was "I don't care, just get here!" During that time my friend Pam arrived and started snapping pictures.

We were trying to get Micah down to bed but I think he could tell that something was up. There was no way he was going to be going to bed. He often came beside me during a contraction and would make me laugh, which was funny and annoying at the same time since laughing was very uncomfortable during contractions. He would popping his head between my legs if I was hunched over, or rub my back, or just run around like a crazy man.

Around 10 pm my mom and sister arrived which only hyped Micah up more. My contractions were getting progressively stronger and I was trying to find comfortable positions, leaning over the couch, on the stairs, on the birth ball and in the shower. My doula arrived around 10:30 pm which was great because things were getting more intense. She helped me focus and breath and I was able to feel relaxed and calm. Micah was still running around like a mad man so I asked Erin to take him out for a walk, hoping that would put him to sleep. Once he left my contractions kicked into high gear since I no longer was focusing on Micah. During a contractions I could hear Tarana (my doula) ask Clint to start the car because it was time to go. At the same time my sister called because she was lost and couldn't find our street. Things look much different in the dark than in the day so she got a little turned around. I was mid contraction while this conversation was going on between my mom and her and that was the last thing I wanted to hear! We grabbed our bags and headed outside. Micah still wasn't back and I started to cry because I really wanted to say good bye to him since it would be the last time I would see him before baby was born and I'd have to share my attention between the two. Just as we were about to leave Erin comes running up and I was able to hug my sweet boy before leaving and of course he asked to come with us.

Around 11:45 pm Clint and I left in our vehicle while Pam and Tarana followed behind. It was a very foggy night which was so odd and our wipers were not working great so I just closed my eyes and moaned during contractions while Clint drove. I had this feeling that we would hit a deer since there were always deer on that road, thankfully we did not. We were about half way to the hospital when I said "I feel like I have to poop." (TMI? well it's a birth story so what else would you expect?) He said, "I know what that means." and started speeding up.

We arrived at the teeny tiny hospital at 12:15 am, rang the door bell so we could get in. They answered the door and asked how they could help! I said, "I'm having a baby!" The nurse replied, "Are you supposed to be delivering here?" - let me just say this hospital is one hallway, 8 patient rooms total! and only two nurses on shift at a time. I mean it when I say teeny tiny! -  I said yes and they let us in. They were looking for my paper work but couldn't find it, so I told them that I was two weeks early. Once they knew that, things seemed to move along and I was able to get in the delivery room. My doctor came in to check me and get my IV in since I was positive for strep B. I was 7 cm and things were looking good. They got me ready to get the IV and I started freaking out, I hate needles with all my being. The nurse was concerned I wasn't going to be able go through with a natural, no pain meds birth (they have no pain meds at this hospital) Tarana assured her that I was only freaking out because of the IV and that it had nothing to do with contractions or labour, and she was right! After a few more contractions my doctor broke my water. I knew things would get intense so I wanted to go to the shower for pain relief. I just stuck on the edge of the bed in a very awkward position, which was my most painful contraction. Once it passed I headed to the shower, we got it going and I got in as soon as the water hit my back another contraction came and I started pushing, I'm told there was a bit of panic as they needed to get me out of the shower (teeny tiny hospital = tiny tiny shower) so I could deliver. I got out and was able to get back to the room in time to hunch over the birth ball and be on my knees for my next contraction. During that contraction Amos' head came down and the doctor said "there's the head" to which I replied "no joke!" I heard a few snickers. I pushed with everything I had during that contraction, I knew he was so close! The next urge to push came and I did just that. I could feel his little body slide out and I was so overjoyed that my sweet baby entered the world at 2:10 am.

Clint knew that he needed to tell me the sex of the baby and not that it was a baby, like he did with Micah. So he said "it's a boy" I said "no!" he assured me it was since he had seen him right as I pushed him out. I was so certain that it was going to be a girl but I was so excited to have another boy and a brother for Micah. The doctor passed him through my legs so that I could hold him on my chest and snuggle that sweet fresh babe.

After a few minutes passed and the cord stopped pulsing I was able to cut it. I then passed Amos off to Clint so that I could get up and move off the floor and onto the bed. I stood up and all of the after birth came out and may have made a bit of a mess. Unfortunately, I tore and had to get stitches which is always less than pleasant, I feel queezy just thinking about it. Once I was all doctored up they moved us to our room to rest.

This delivery was so different from Micah's. I am thankful to have had both experiences but feel so empowered being able to allow my body to do what it was made to do with very little medical intervention. I'm am so thankful that we had an amazing doctor who respected our requests and had our well being in his best interest. My doula, she was amazing. I don't know if I could have done it without her. I was able to stay fairly calm and collected and would get me back on track if I started doubting myself.  Clint, of course! He did great and believed in me. He was also very thankful that we had a much different experience this time around.

38 weeks

well little bee you have a few people on the outside that would like to meet you, soon! - big brother asks when you are going to pop out of my belly button and asks if its your happy birthday, everyday - everyday i wonder if today will be the day - i think you are going to be one long baby, tall just like daddy -  we are getting so excited to kiss your cheeks and welcome you here - this week you seem to like orange juice and fruit - everyday momma bounces on her ball so that you will come a wee bit sonner, micah likes bouncing on there too, its a bit tricky since you are taking up most of the space on my lap - i think i might actually get more sleep once you get here, i forgot just how little sleep i can survive on for days on end - we got some clothes. blankets, and diapers out and ready for you this week, so you really can come any time now - great grandma and popeye are leaving soon for a short trip but would like it if you came before they left so they don't miss your big d├ębut - hope to see you soon sweet bee we love you and pray for you every day

36 weeks

wow sweet bee you are now 36 old, officially 'full term' which means you can come at any time! - i'd love to have you in my arms sooner rather than later but i know that God has the perfect day for you to come - i've been having contractions on and off for a while now hopefully they are doing something - it's been fun being able to tell exactly what body part is jabbing me here and there, your little knee can pack a punch! - we are getting so excited to kiss your sweet cheeks - daddy tells me at night that he is just can't wait any more -  micah makes sure you come with us in the car when we go places, he doesn't want you left behind! thankfully you are pretty easy to tote around with us - we can't wait to meet you and get to know you - you are so loved and so perfect just the way you are

life lately

lately life seems to be flying by. it might have something to do with trying to take in everything we can now that the weather is so great, or maybe it's because i'm always on my toes waddling after a toddler, or it could be a combo of the two. micah is just so much fun right now, his personality is bursting and it's so fun discovering more about him every day. i am trying to treasure these last few weeks we have together just the two of us during the day while daddy is at work. some days can be so long but i always look for the bright moments during the day and try to stash those in the memory bank instead of the moments that i lost my cool because the 10th tantrum of the day was due to not ripping the toilet paper the correct way.

micah has decided that he wants to use the potty now and so he does. i am so proud of my little man and how he just decided one day that he wanted to wear 'daddy' underwear. there is still the odd accident here and there but over all he is doing an amazing job.

micah is a big help when it comes to watering the garden. he drag the hose all over and waters everything... everything! his slide gets a good washing almost daily because there is 'yucky poop' from the birds, the car also gets a good watering on a regular basis.he does also water the flowers and weeds and lawn. i also find myself getting sprayed regularly.

micah loves colouring, being at the shop, driving his bike, playing in his sand/water table, going for walks, hugging and kissing the baby, pretending to be a baby, blowing bubbles, barkley (the neighbours dog), and just being goofy! it is so much fun being his mom. i can't wait to see him in the role of big brother. i think he is going to do an amazing job!

i guess life lately is all about micah,

35 weeks

it's hard to believe that in 5 weeks, give or take,  we will be holding you in our arms. where has the time gone? - the other day i drank a bunch of water and you started squirming around and we could hear the water sloshing around, Micah thought it was pretty funny and is always asking if there is 'waka waka' in there with you - this past week you had momma wondering if you were going to make an early appearance with two straight days of contractions, thankfully you decided to stay in there a little bit longer, probably because you heard your brother throwing a tantrum and decided to stay were it was a bit more peaceful - you sure do love radishes and ice just like your brother did - you get the hiccups several times a day and it's so fun to watch my belly pop up and down and know exactly where your chest is - we sure are wondering what you are going to look like, will you look like your brother or have your very own look? - either way we can't wait to kiss those sweet cheeks and nose - sweet little bee, you are so so loved!

on my heart + lots of pictures

I've been trying to figure out the right time or if there is a right time to get this off my heart. This pregnancy has been so different in so many ways. There are the physical ways it's been different with slightly less morning sickness, totally different cravings, feeling much better over all than I did with Micah. However, this pregnancy has been very different emotionally too. With Micah I was ecstatic, I felt like the whole world should stop moving and acknowledge that I was going to have a baby, a real squirmy squishy baby. With Micah I also had intense, crippling fear of losing him, I couldn't sleep for days on end because of the fear.

This time around I have been surrounded by loss and heartache as this baby grows in my womb. I have had friends loss there littles early on in pregnancy after years of trying, and I have friends who found out that there sweet girl wouldn't live long after she was born. This week we are saying see you later to that sweet girl. My heart is absolutely broken! So many emotions run through my heart and mind. I feel the kicks of our babe and wonder why the Lord has allowed such pain and heartache on our friends. It has been very difficult to have excitement for the life growing inside me and grieve simultaneously for our friends that have lost so much. The guilt is overwhelming.

Rejoice with those who rejoice, and mourn with those who mourn. - Romans 12:15

Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. - Isaiah 41:10

Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. - Matthew 11:28-30

33 weeks

sweet bee it is so hard to believe that you are 33 weeks old already! time is flying by - you get the hiccups, a lot - big brother loves to kiss you goodnight - he also tries to show you off when we go shopping - he loves putting lotion on my belly that feels like you may rip out of - you really like radishes, just like your brother did - the doctors say you are big, which scares momma just a little bit - you seem to think that mommas ribs is the perfect place to push your sweet bum into - you also like to keep momma nice and toasty warm but the weather is also doing a great job of that too, water, fans, and shade are my friends right now - we might get to see your sweet self in a couple weeks if you don't flip head down, i'd love to see you one last time before we hold you in our arms but also would love if you would go head down sooner than later - oh sweet bee we love you so much and pray for you everyday

Micah is Two!

oh my sweet sweet boy, how can it be that you have been in our arms for two whole years? it seems like just yesterday that you were born, yet i can't even remember what life was like without you. you are such a sweet soul. you love nature and being outdoors as much as possible. you love your daddy something fierce, you try and mimic his every move. you also love this momma a heck of a lot. you are happiest when the three of us are together,

your favourite place to be is at carman concrete. you love all the guys there and i'm pretty sure they love you... brap brap...  when we are driving you make sure to beep when we are backing up. you gag at the smell of your own poop. you love blowing bubbles, bbqing with daddy, painting with momma, stickers, feeding the birds, going for walks, and playing with barkley. if you have pockets there is no doubt your hand will be in them. you call hockey appido, and most things you say only daddy and i can understand.

you are not a fan of getting your nose wiped, apple peels, or being out of arms reach of momma or daddy. you prefer showers to baths, could eat french fries for every meal, you love breakfast, puppies, chickens, rzr rides, and playing endless alphabet. you are a goof ball and love making people laugh. you are also very shy. you try not to look people in the face but make sure you can see them out of the corner of your eye so you can see if they are getting to close.

you love giving baby brother/sister hugs, kisses and zerburts. when we go driving you also ask if baby is with us. you will make an excellent big brother! it brings me such joy to see you growing up to be such a caring boy but its also hard to see you growing up so fast! time needs to slow down.

you are 28.5 lbs and 32 inches tall

micah i pray that you will always be loving and filled with joy. i pray that you will live out micah 6:8 and that you will always seek justice, love mercy and walk humbly.

i thank God for picking us to be your parents. you teach us daily to be better people.

we love you sweet boy!

March 8, 2015

20 - 21 ish weeks

so the doctors have given me a week long due date, you are due to arrive sometime between july13-21 - i think you'll just come when you come - daddy felt your kicks finally - your favourite time to practise kick boxing is late in the evening when momma is winding down from the day - your brother likes to sit on you - speaking of your brother he likes to give you kisses and zerburts, you usually kick back at him - we will get to see your sweet self this week, it can't come soon enough - you are so loved little bumblebee

February 9, 2015

18 weeks

sweet little bee you have been so active this last week it is so much fun feeling you squirming around in there - you were so active we had hard time finding your heartbeat at the doctor appointment today, you kept kicking the doppler away - you and your brother are doing a good job of taking all my energy away - you haven't been craving anything particular lately except mcdonalds hash browns  - you are about the size of a sweet potato this week - somedays it feels like you are taking forever to grow in there and other days its hard to believe that you are almost half way done growing in there - sweet little bumble bee we love you dearly and can't wait to smooch your smoochable cheeks!

January 29, 2015

16 weeks

well sweet baby bumble bee you are now 16 weeks old - you are the size of a pear - momma can feel you flipping and flopping in there but daddy can't feel it quiet yet - you seem to like orange juice and hate coffee, which makes me a little sad because i really miss coffee - your big brother is very excited to meet you - he gives you tickles and kisses almost daily - momma and daddy picked your name, but we are keeping it a secret - we love you and pray for you everyday sweet bee - hugs and kisses
